The British Museum Co-Creation Project Teams Up With Single Homeless Project’s ArtHouse Project Providing Clients An Opportunity To Create & Engage With Art

Our Opportunities Programme - Arthouse Project were invited to be the British Museum's partner for their new Co-Creation 2021 project.

Arthouse is a diverse and dynamic programme that enables both a supportive entry point to the arts and exposure to different mediums and creatives, with a view to supporting artistic development and the collective showcasing of people’s talent, expression and imagination.

The British Museum Co-production project was designed in collaboration with Arthouse Project, Recovery Opportunities Co-Ordinator - Charlotte and SHP Clients to engage with the life of the Museum.

The format for co-creation allows for participants to shape and structure the project in collaboration with the museum's learning and national partnerships department to ensure our client's needs, ambitions and interests are met.

Nine co-creators over four sessions were given the opportunity to explore the eight million objects from the extraordinary diversity of human cultures displayed in the museum including exhibitions such as the Mitsubishi Corporation Japanese Galleries, the Albukhay Gallery of the Islamic World and The Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery.

The co-creator's creative response to the collection resulted in some fantastic work including photography, collage, illustration, and film. On one lucky session at the museum, Co-creators meet British award-winning artist Grayson Perry

The fourth and final session gave the Co-creators the opportunity to share and present their art, work together on one final collaborative group creation and celebrate the project with tea and snacks in the British Museum Great Court Café.

The Co-creators enjoyed the Project so much that they have requested a museums and galleries group to be created!

"Thanks again, Charlotte, for the wondrous experiences of the short but brilliant Art Project! We are positively hopefully looking for new artistic opportunities and new doors opening to develop and grow our artistic endeavours.”

- Project Participant

Initiatives like the British Museum Co-Creation Project provide opportunities for clients to explore their creative side, socialise and work together in a group setting, learn, share and grow. These experiences most importantly empower clients through the process of co-production, an opportunity for clients to share their ideas, thoughts and experiences and contribute to something. This often times boosts participants self confidence and provides positive life experiences, all building blocks to one's quality of life.

Co-creator Sushi created this short film documenting the ‘Drawing Challenge’ that took place at one of the Project sessions.
