SoundHouse Project is an SHP - wide service provided for creatives to express themselves through music.
Many of our clients have a passion for making music. For some it’s for pure enjoyment, social or therapeutic purposes, while others have a vocational interest in working in the industry, becoming musicians or learning music production.
Create
Artists can engage in a programme of recording sessions to build up a portfolio of work and develop an invaluable skill set in music production, which will help facilitate further education goals, working opportunities and creative enterprises.
Record
We run weekly sessions at our fully equipped professional studios in Sydenham for Young People & Westminster for Adults. As well as a number of other hostels where we have converted rooms into performance and recording spaces.
Explore
In addition to providing producing & recording opportunities, we also have established weekly sessions in our adult services, with studio equipment & instruments available to be curious, learn and explore in our services in Camden, Westminster, Islington and Lewisham.
“Music activities are seen as fun, the sessions are formed so that they are not in any way stressful or hold any unnecessary pressure to perform.
Sessions can be anything from talking about musical likes, music experiences, listening to music, song writing, spoken word, recording or just jamming.
With encouragement and regular sessions, you can really see people excel and watch the creative juices flow.
Music is a great common ground, irrespective of age or demographics and opens up new opportunities to other activities within music.”

The Joe Strummer Foundation
The Joe Strummer Foundation mission is to provide opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that create empowerment through music.
Jamie from The Joe Strummer Foundation shared:
“The Joe Strummer Foundation is thrilled to be supporting the SoundHouse Project. In these challenging times, it Is more important than ever for people to come together and support those in need. We plan to work with the SHP to develop a high-quality music studio in their Westminster hostel. The studio will provide clients the opportunity to actively take part in engaging music-making sessions, learn new skills, pick up a guitar, sing, make beats, record music, improve wellbeing and build relationships. We hope to also host workshops, masterclasses and support new and more experienced musicians in the live environment. The current climate may hamper progress but we remain committed and look forward to working together”

Youth Music
Youth Music believes that every young person should have the chance to change their life through music. The grant awarded to our SoundHouse Project’s Young People Programmes will allow us to deliver multiple music creating and explorative programmes across our YP Services.
Rob Walsh, SoundHouse Project Manager shared:
““We talk frequently about levelling the playing field…. Well, music does this in a big way.
There is nothing that appears more empowering to me than Young People getting excited about the music that they’re writing and recording.
The studio creates an environment in which Young People can be expressive about the music they’re writing. With our young creatives having access to the studio we have seen growth in their personal development and confidence. This is an important positive impact that music has helped with, encouraging better relationships between staff, freelancers and young people. “
